Question

Correct order of first ionization potential among the following elements Be, B, C, N, O is

Answer: A

💡 Solution & Explanation

The 1st Ionisation Potential increases across a period as atomic size decreases.Atoms with fully or partly filled orbitals have high ionisation potential. Thus option (d) is the correct answer as N being half filled has highest ionization potenial and the first ionization of Beryllium is greater than that of Boron because Beryllium has a stable complete electronic configuration (1s22s2) so it, require more energy to remove the first electron from it, where as Boron has electronic configuration (1s22s22p1) which need lesser energy than that of Beryllium.
