Which of the following is not hydrolysed easily? (OJEE 2010)

A.CCl4✓ Correct
B.SiCl4
C.GeCl4
D.SnCl4
Explanation

All the compounds given are tetrahalides. Hydrolysis means water will donate its lone pair to the central metal atom and for this to take place central metal atom should have vacant d-orbital. Si, Ge and Sn have vacant d- orbitals but C does not have vacant d-orbitals. Hence, the correct option is (a).
