Which one of the following conditions will favour maximum formation of the product in the reaction, A2 (g) + B2 (g) X2 (g); rH = – X kJ? (NEET 2018)

A.Low temperature and low pressure
B.High temperature and high pressure
C.Low temperature and high pressure✓ Correct
D.High temperature and low pressure
Explanation

According to the Le-Chatelier’s principle, for an exothermic reaction (whose enthalpy is negative), with the decrease in the temperature, the reaction is favoured in the forward reaction. And with the increase in pressure, the reaction is favoured in the direction where lesser number of moles are present. Hence, the given reaction will shift in forward direction with decrease in temperature and increase in pressure.
