Claisen condensation is not given by (CPMT 2007) (a) (b) (c) (d) Ans. (a) Sol. The Claisen reaction is a condensation reaction. Here, a new carbon – carbon bond is formed by a Carboxylic Acid and Its Derivatives reaction occurring between two esters. However, it can also be used for one ester and another carbonyl compound in presence of a strong base. As a result, a beta-ester or a beta-diketone is formed. Here, in option (a) has no alpha-hydrogen therefore does not undergo Claisen reduction. Therefore, the correct answer is option (a)
