An incorrect statement with respect to SN1 and SN2 mechanisms for alkyl halides is (KCET 2014)

A.a strong nucleophile in an aprotic solvent increase the
B.competing reaction for an SN2 reaction is✓ Correct
C.SN1 reaction can be catalyzed by some Lewis acids
D.a weak nucleophile and aprotic solvent increase the
Explanation

This problem includes concept of SN1 and SN2 reaction and factors affecting SN1 and SN2 reaction. During SN2 reaction of alkyl halide, inversion of configuration takes place instead of rearrangement. While SN1 reaction occurs through the formation of carbocation intermediate which is favoured by the presence of Lewis acid and aprotic solvent. Rearrangement of carbocation is also possible in this case. Thus, statement (b) is incorrect and all other statements are correct.
