Which one of the following can be oxidised to the corresponding carbonyl compound?

A.2-hydroxy-propane✓ Correct
B.ortho-nitro-phenol
C.Phenol
D.2-methyl-2-hydroxy-propane
Explanation

Carbonyl compounds are the either aldehydes or ketones. From primary and secondary alcohols carbonyl compounds are obtained. When primary alcohol is oxidized, there is formation of aldehyde and when secondary alcohol is oxidized, there is formation of ketone. So, from the options given, 2-hydroxy propane will give a ketone.
