Aldehydes are the primary oxidation product of primary alcohols. The primary alcohols are first oxidized to form aldehydes which on further oxidations can be Aldehydes and Ketones 6 converted into carboxylic acid. Ketones are formed from oxidation of secondary alcohols and this cannot be further oxidized to form carboxylic acids.
