The functional group that represents the aldehyde group is 퐶퐻푂, in which the carbon atom is joined to the oxygen atom with the double bond and carbon atom is joined to the hydrogen atom by the single bond. So, only one bond is there for the attachment of the carbon chain, therefore, the aldehyde group can be present only at the terminal carbon atoms in the chain.
